Built for 170 MPH winds.
Living on an island means your roof takes whatever the Pacific sends. QuietCool's roof mount and solar attic fans are independently tested and certified to stay put through hurricane-force winds — so the system that cools your home all year doesn't become a liability during storm season.
What Windstorm Certification Means
Anything you mount on a roof becomes part of the roof. A vent that tears loose in high wind doesn't just fail — it opens a hole in your building envelope and lets wind and water into the attic.
Windstorm certification means an independent laboratory — not the manufacturer — mounted the product the way it ships, loaded it to hurricane-force pressures, and confirmed it stayed attached and watertight. QuietCool's roof mount products are tested by Intertek under ASTM E330 (structural performance under wind load) and AAMA 501.1 (water penetration under dynamic pressure).
The result: certified models withstand sustained wind speeds over 170 MPH, which is above the threshold for a Category 5 hurricane. For comparison, Hurricane Iniki hit Kaua‘i in 1992 with sustained winds around 145 MPH.
The Certifications
QuietCool holds approvals from the two states with the most demanding windstorm requirements in the country.
Texas Department of Insurance
TDI approval is required for any product installed through a roof penetration in the Texas Gulf Coast windstorm counties — a program built specifically around hurricane exposure.
Florida Building Commission
Florida requires statewide product approval for roof installations, backed by third-party Intertek test reports under ASTM E330 and AAMA 501.1.
Certified Products We Offer
The windstorm certifications cover QuietCool's AFR series attic fans and RM WHF-2.0 roof mount whole house fans.
50 Watt Smart Solar Roof Mount Attic Fan
AFR series. Solar powered with hybrid AC backup, smart app control, 3-speed DC motor, 15 year warranty.
Smart Roof Fan (AFR SMT-2.0)
AFR series. Built-in thermostat and humidistat with three speed settings and QuietCool Smart Control app support.
Roof mount whole house fans
The RM WHF-2.0 roof mount whole house fan carries the same TDI and Florida approvals. Ask us which roof mount configuration is certified for your installation — see Roof Mounted QuietCool.
What this means for a Hawaii permit
Windstorm certification programs are run state by state. Texas and Florida operate the two most rigorous ones, which is why manufacturers test to those standards — but the approvals themselves are issued by those states, not by Hawaii. Hawaii counties permit under their own adopted building code.
What the certifications give you here is independent proof of how the product performs under hurricane-force wind load. If your building department asks for documentation, we'll provide the Intertek test reports and the Florida and TDI approval records for the exact model going on your roof.
