TYPES OF FANS
- Belt Driven
- Direct drive
- Multi fans in 1 box
Belt Driven Fans
Belt Driven Fans are typically quieter, pull more air and service more area than other types of fans. If the fan does not come on, it’s usually a power problem. Look for the following:
- Switch not working – Contact Island Cooling for Warranty Replacement
- Bad motor – Contact Island Cooling for Warranty Replacement
- Tripped breaker – Turn breaker back on
Direct Drive Fans
Direct Drive Fans are louder, lower quality and will need to be replaced if the motor fails.
Multi Fans in 1 Box
Multi Fans in 1 Box have a cover that opens that helps seal the fan from summer or winter climate. This is great for cooler climates. The disadvantage with these fans is in a lower CFM which in not as well suited to Hawaii.
The amount of hot or cold that would come from the footprint of the shutter is minimal and in Hawaii should not be a very large part of your decision when choosing a Whole House Fan. (We do offer shutter covers).
Decision Process When Choosing a Whole House Fan
- How fast will it exchange the air in my house? What is the (CFM) Cubic Feet of air per minute? – We recommend 2 to 3 minutes.
- How quiet is the fan?
- Quality of product
- Warranty
- References for company
