This is a very good step you are taking for energy consuming. The way energy sources are reducing day by day, energy saving is a must for every one. Keeping your house cool during summers is very important, & now there is a more energy efficient way to keep your whole house cool rather than the usual air conditioner. One can install a whole house fan & it is not only energy efficient but also cost effective.

I am trying to do a remodel, including a roof over. I am putting a metal root over an existing composition shingle roof. Can I put the insulation between roofing felt, and metal roofing with the foil side of the insulation in contact with the metal roofing panels. The panel have 1 1/4" ribs on 12" centers. Will this provide adequate ventilation or am I in danger of creating mold?

This article on puting the insulation in the attic does not say which surface is placed towards the rafter.

Thanks for the comment. Solar Guard reflective insulation reflects 93% of solar heat, greatly reducing the direct heat gain through the roof. You can test this by using a spot thermometer to measure the heat on a wall or ceiling and then comparing those temperatures after the installation of Solar Guard.
On this particular installation, using thermal insulation (thick fiberglass) would have meant filling up more space in between rafters. Using Solar Guard Brett was able to keep the aesthetics of the roof consistent and show the beams instead of creating a flat ceiling.

“The addition of SolarGuard radiant barriers in between the rafters, from Island Cooling, makes the home cooler, more comfortable and more energy-efficient."
Are you sure that this is true?

Hi,
Good healthy discussion. Poor home ventilation can accumulate contaminants which can threaten your health, such as formaldehyde. Instead of causing health problems, it can also lead to the growth of the mold which can further damage the furniture in your home. It is the reason why proper home ventilation is highly needed for your home. It is also a good way for reducing the bills for your air conditioning.
